So far I really like Great expectations. However their seem to be some parts of the story that haven't really seemed to be answered like who attacked Pip's sister, is the only point of miss havisham having Pip play with Estella to break his heart? who sent Pip to become a genntleman? Does Pip truely belong with Estella or Biddy?
I think it's a great(no pun intended) book, and the vocabulary use is awesome; I can practically feel myself getting smarter. i find the lifestyle gap between "gentlemen" and "common" men to be quite interesting. i dislike, however, that the only real difference seems to be the money you have and what you buy with it.
I enjoy Great Expectations. The extreme characters are what make this book what it is. Mrs. Havershim and her old wedding cake and gown are sooo creepy, but I love it. The fact that Pip's life is still intertwined with the convict is hilarious. The way Pip describes his sister makes me laugh and now I'm dying to know who his secret benefactor is.I can't wait to find out!
I enjoy the book so far too. It was a slow read at first but the story gets more interesting as you keep reading. I like Mrs. Havisham a lot because she adds mystery to the story. And the convicts add some suspense to the novel. I have enjoyed doing the lit circle so far and I'm curious to find out how the book ends.
Estella has actual feeling for Pip which becomes apparent when they talk about the boys she makes follow her. She expresses how she doesn't want Pip to be one of those boys, and this expression of feeling shows a rebellion against Miss.Havisham. But Estella's feelings aren't the only ones that mean something. Pip's love for Estella is also rather odd, with him loving her no matter how cruel she is to him. This could link with how Pip's sister was abusive to him but she was the only family alive to love and care for Pip.
while reading this book i came upon a passage that talks about how men had fallen asleep in the night and "destroyed" themselves, waking surrounded in blood the next morning; or rather, not waking, but found as such. i've heard a few stories about people that torture themselves or injure themselves while they sleep, and it seems to be mostly related to an extreme amount of trauma or stress; which makes me feel like pip is under much pressure at that time.
It does seem like most of the time Pip is under a great deal of stress and anxiety. Estella does not help him since he is constantly longing to be with her! It was an interesting read. I liked how all of the characters were connected.

Wow I can't believe Pip invested $500 in businesses for Mr. Pockets. No one really trusts Pockets so it's strange that Pip trusted him.
