All lit circle discussions for A Midsummer Night's Dream should occur in
this thread. Please remember, Blog posts are due Thursday nights by
10pm. Posters in this group include: Natalie, Tiffany, Haley and Alec.
This novel started off boring, and slow. To be honest I was skeptic about it because I am not a fan of interpreting Shake Spear. However as the novel goes on it is getting easier to interpret and understand. And as the story unfolds, it is actually a really interesting book as well. When in doubt...trust your group. :)
This novel is getting better and better. I think the farther along it goes the more interested I am in it. Did anyone find it wierd, when Hemias father walked into the field and found all four "lovers" asleep in the field? I thought he was going to be mad or angry, but he wasnt which suprised me.
I am really enjoying the play. I found the conflict with the lovers to be really funny. I am a really curious to see what will happen in act v because it seems like the story is essentially finished. I am predicting that the actors will perform the play and all will go well. Then it will talk about how all the couples are happily in love and the play will be over.
I love this book. It started off a little slow and I was apprehensive, but there were a few plot twists and I was hooked. The storyline is actually interesting and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next. The only part that I'm not quite connecting with or enjoying is the part with all the men putting on a play. It's pretty boring to me and I dont like reading those parts. Overall it's a good book and I can't wait to see what is goin to come next. There isn't a whole lot of room left for another twist so I am excited to see how he wraps it all up and keeps it interesting.

Act five was not at all what I expected it to be. It mainly just features the men performing their play, and honestly, seems more like a digression to me than anything. I realize it's supposed to add humor, with the nobles poking fun of the bumbling peasant folk, however I didn't find their mocking very funny. I actually ended up feeling sorry for the poor men who had worked so hard to put on the play only to be made fun of right to their face. It sort of mademe like theking and lovers less than I did before this scene. Kind of a bummer, I guess.
Here is the link to a book that has a bunch of articles on a midummer's night dream. The one entitled Bottoms Up is really relevant to act 5: http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=BuviYEcehHAC&oi=fnd&pg=PR11&dq=midsummer+night+dream++-jstor&ots=EYacwHH-eP&sig=C2ws1rIM49G4DH-vozVY6zT5ae4#v=onepage&q=midsummer%20night%20dream%20%20-jstor&f=false
I was not a fan of act five. The men were my least favorite part of the book and this whole section was basically just them performing their play. I thought it was pretty anticlimactic. There was a prompt in the packet about how books end and how they actually conclude. I found this kind of ironic becauseive read about how well Shakespeare ties his plays together in the end. I don't think this play was a very good representation of his abilities. It would be good to write about for that prompt.
I have enjoyed the book as a whole. While act v may not have been the most exciting part, it did a good job capturing the essence of the play and creating a good ending. The most exciting part was definitely when there was the confusion about love, but the presentation of the play added some lighthearted fun to end the story with. It was comical and enjoyable to read, and I am glad we chose this book for our lit circle.
