Checking In

Hello! I am loving the comments so far--great job! A few of you have emailed me about blog invites. I have resent the invitation to anyone who has contacted me. Let me know if you didn't receive it! I just wanted to offer a friendly reminder about outside sources. You must use three. You may NOT use sparknotes, about.com, wikipedia, or any kind of plot summary. Stick with academic sources and you'll be fine.

One of the biggest problems students seem to have with the summer homework is finding appropriate sources. Feel free to share any resources you've found particularly invaluable. Don't forget to access district databases and check out the local library (and their online databases) as well.

There are only two weeks to go until the July 25th essay due date! So far the essays that have been submitted are looking pretty fabulous :)

If you go to the reference section at the library they have Novels for Students as well as Poems for Students. NFS- vol 2 has helpful info for Things Fall Apart and PFS vol 7 has info on the poem. I know kisker does for sure because I am there right now using them!

I always go straight to newspaper sites like the New York Times for professional critiques. And I usually find luck in online books with literary criticism.

So since I wasn't there on the day invites were sent out of School, I am taking over this Thread as my own:

First just my general thought of the book. I'm really not the Character Study sort of person, and this book is chock full of it. So just by that the book really wasn't my favorites. But I really loved the struggle that the book showed (staying with society norms or stretching out and grasps new Ideas). This struggle has been written about in countless books but I truly believe this book was able to bring something new to the discussion because of how well they developed their characters and the setting that it happens in. Overall I enjoyed the book but it's not going to make me keep coming back to read it.
