Most of us have certain routines in life and when it changes we have to figure out how to respond. In this novel I believe that it portrays the importance of routine. Such as the importance of routine in their farming and religous beliefs. It is true that change can cause complete tumult and I believe this happened with Okonkwo and the villages.

I agree! The every day routines and traditions in their every day life are suddenly interrupted and the people have to find a way to respond to what is happeneing. Some fight it and some join it but in Okonkwo case it got the best of him and was the ultimate down fall of him.
Change also showed its effects at the end of the book when the missionaries came to the village. These people had completely foreign customs and beliefs making the people of village feel very awkward. The missionaries came in and told the people of the clan that all their gods, that they have worshipped for years upon years, were a complete nonsense. This really shook up the natives traditions and beliefs.
personally speaking, i believe that routines are most often a poison to the human way of life, even though they are somewhat necessary. by this i mean that i could do anything i wanted, i could make a rocket and go to the moon, i could fly to europe, i could learn karate i could save the world, but i don't simply because i haven't before; it's not routine so i don't think to do it. almost everyone has been possessed with the urge to do something "crazy" at some point, and that is what defines individuality; your ability to innovate, create, and inspire.
